The Rodney Dangerfield of the wine world. For those of a certain age, you'll understand what this means. Chenin Blanc gets zero respect. It's a shame, as it's one of the most ancient grape varieties, with the capacity for producing some of the greatest white wines. A few brave winemakers are giving it the attention that it deserves. Dashe is one of my favorites. The 2018 is a rock star. Sourced from the Sacramento Delta, it's built a reputation for Chenin. The wine is made in small concrete tanks (an old method that is being brought back), native yeast fermentation. It's jammed with grapefruit and acacia notes, with a brightness that you can't help but love. The fresh acidity will allow it to drink well on day two after being opened. Drink just slightly chilled with seafoods or creamy soups. It would also be a great choice for holiday meals. Total production: 675 cases. Drink now through 2022.
