2015 Domaine Le Couroulu Vacqueyras "Cuvee Classique" - Rhone Valley, France - SAVE 20%
Vacqueyras like none other. Over the last several years, I've thought of Vacqueyras as one of the best, yet least appreciated wines to be found anywhere. The style and quality is a lot like it's best known and more expensive neighbors of Chateauneuf du Pape and Gigondas. Made from the holy trinity of the southern Rhone of Grenache, Syrah and Mourvedre. About 1/4 of the blend is Syrah, it provides that added heft and depth that is the difference maker. The name refers to a bird that I found in the area, I visited the property of my first trip to France more than 30 years ago. I still have the picks of being there with a mullet. I've been a fan of ever since (of the wine, not the mullet!). The wine is deep and dense, but it's not heavy. It's beautifully balanced, complex and a gen from start to finish. It's only light filtered, some sediment may be present. It drink great into day two, if you have leftovers. About 1200 cases are produced each year. Best to drink now through 2023.
