An aged CdP from a great winery. Here's something that doesn't come along often. A Chateauneuf du Pape from a top estate and a strong vintage, yes it's a 1999. Made from mostly Grenache (75%) with the remainder being Syrah, Mourvedre and Cinsault. There are 17 hectares of vines, spread over several plots, organically farmed.  At twenty year old, it's now fully mature. The color is still quite deep, but there is some fading at the rim of the glass. The wine retains deep, red and black fruit, but the tertiary notes are showing through. There is plenty of concentration and heft, but it's balanced, with a long satisfying finish. It took about 15 minutes to develop after opening, decanting is recommended as there is some sediment. It drinks well for several hours, then it gently fades. Ideal with simply prepared red meats or hearty stews. Total production 4200 cases. Drink now through 2020.

Body/weight 4, flavor intensity 4, acidity 3, oak 2, tannin 1
